Backround:
This puukko was a gift for a horseback rider, and was designed together with a passionate horse enthusiast. The way the handle is shaped makes the puukko easy to draw from the sheath even when on horseback. I made the tip of the blade a little bit blunter than usual, so the overall lenght of the puukko would be shorter. A puukko with short sheath doesn’t get in the way of the rider or the horse.
Technical information:
Blade is carbon steel (lenght 65 mm), handle is oiled curly birch and bolsters are brass. Sheath is tanned leather, decorated with the receiver’s initials and other patterns. Inside the sheath there is a wooden liner made of alder tree, and the leather belt loop is attached to the sheath with a 3 mm brass rivet.
